Today we welcome to the blog Miranda Lynn. Miranda is a new-to-me author who writes paranormal romance and time travelling romance. Her next release is out in January and she’s here to tell us a little bit about what we can expect when Sterling is out next month!

So let’s get to know Miranda!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a lover of coffee, wine, romance, and all things written. I have two teenage boys, two dogs, a retired military husband and many many voices in my head. I substitute teach at the local middle school and high school as well as write. I grew up on a dairy farm and am all around a down to earth girl who is not ready to age gracefully. (I’m fighting that crap all the way)

2. Can you tell us a little bit about your latest release/upcoming release? And what readers can expect when they open one of your books?

My latest release is scheduled for January 13th. Sterling is the third book in my paranormal romance series and I think by far the best book yet. This one has more suspense and delves a little deeper into the emotional side of the characters. I write in two different genre’s currently. Time Travel Romance with a twist and paranormal romance. You are likely to find sassy funny women and sexy alpha men when you open the covers of my books. A bit of suspense with a dash of heat rolled into the 200 pages or so. I like to put a twist on the normal myths of shifters and fantasy and hope that my readers enjoy a book with something different.

3. You write time travel fantasy and paranormal romance. What drew you to those genres? What do you find challenging about those genres?

I love reading those genres so it seemed natural for me to write them. The challenge is creating a book that isn’t the same old story that’s out there. Giving it a twist that keeps the readers turning the page.

4. Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way, either growing up or as an adult?

Amityville Horror was a book I’ll never forget, it scared the bejesus out of me. Anne Rice and V.C. Andrews were the first authors I had to read everything they wrote. Many more over time have influenced me one way or another but those are stand outs for me.

5. Does/has anything in real life influence your writing? (Life experiences, films, books, celebrities, music, places, etc.)

Funny you should ask, I have actually started working on a Young Adult novel. Being a substitute teacher at the high school has brought me back into the angsty folds of teen life and I can’t help but put it on paper.

6. What do you find to be the most difficult part of the writing process?

Setting goals for myself. I am horrible at keeping them and find myself procrastinating more if I have them. (self-imposed) Also sometimes finding the time to really lose myself in writing is hard with real life being so hectic. The other thing is keeping up with my fans and readers, I really wish I had more time to do that.

Here is a blurb from my soon to release Sterling.

Reana

The acridity of burnt flesh assaulted my nose.

The screeching of rubber, and clanging of metal crushing against metal vibrated in my ears.

The flames burned a permanent tattoo on my retinas.

I stood slack jawed and unbelieving at the sight before me. The whole crash happened in seconds but played out in slow motion over and over in my head. Orchestrated by the lone figure, draped in black, still standing in the middle of the road. I snuck back in my building to avoid being seen. My heart racing, breaths short, and tears streaming down my face. My best friend, the woman who had been my roommate since I had joined the pack, and her fate chosen mate had just been eliminated with no regard to who saw.

One hour earlier

Tammy burst through the door of our apartment. “I need to pack Rae, help me.” She was bouncing with excitement, flitting around grabbing things.

“Why? What’s the hurry?” I followed her to our room. Our apartment was part of our “benefit” package while working at the club. Ours was small, a single bedroom shared by two women who became best friends on sight. Located in a dingy building in the seedy part of town, the only comfort was the security that the pack provided making it the safe haven it had become.

“Ricky said yes He released me from my contract, so I can be with Jerry. I’m moving in with him tonight!”

“Are you serious? Slow down, wait.” I trailed her as she threw random things in her bag. What she said didn’t make sense, no one had ever been released from their contract. Especially not to be with a mate. And Ricky isn’t even the Alpha that was Jacob’s call. I was extremely confused. I grabbed her arm to get her attention. “What exactly did he say?’

She huffed out a breath at my hand. “He said if that is your choice, to be with a mate, then leave. I release you.”

“Release you from what?” I asked while trying to decipher how he had worded it.

“My contract silly.” She tugged away and continued stuffing clothes and odds and ends into her bag and moved to our bathroom. “Jerry is on his way to get me. His granddad left him a cabin on the edge of town and we are going to make that our home. Tonight we complete our mating.” She popped her head out of the door “Rea I am so ready.”

“Tammy, I hate to break it to you but our contracts aren’t with Ricky. He just manages the club for Jacob.”

“They are now Rae. He’s the new Alpha, didn’t you know? The shift happened this morning, you were probably sleeping. He defeated Jacob in one on one combat.”

I wandered into the living room while she finished in the bathroom. I retreated back into my head feeling for the pack bond that kept me connected to the other members. I found the web. It used to be shiny silvery threads connecting all the members, but now there was a dark slimy residue on a lot of them and I found a new thicker strand that looked to be coated in tar that hadn’t been there before. It was tightly wound around Ricky’s thread and pulsed giving off small waves of darkness. I backed out quickly and mentally built a wall between myself and the web only allowing my still shining thread to penetrate.

“Tammy, look at the bonds. Something isn’t right.”

“Its fine Rae, you worry too much.” Tammy made it the four short steps to the living room slash kitchen where I was standing. “Can’t you just be happy for me? I finally get my happy ever after. A mate and babies soon I hope.” She blushed slightly. “Stop worrying this one time and just be happy for me.”

I sighed knowing no matter what I said Tammy would still leave. “I am Tam, I just worry about you. Please be careful.”

“We will. Come downstairs with em? Jerry should be here soon, I don’t want him waiting on me.”

“Of course” Even with her faults I loved Tammy and really wanted to see her happy. She could be stubborn when she wanted to as well and this was one of those times. It wouldn’t matter what I said or what I could prove she was going through with leaving.
